Jimmy Barnes, the legendary frontman of Cold Chisel, has released his long-awaited autobiography, Working Class Boy. The book is a raw and honest account of Barnes' life, from his humble beginnings in Glasgow, Scotland, to his rise to international stardom.
Barnes was born into a working-class family in Glasgow in 1956. His father was a welder and his mother was a stay-at-home mum. Barnes had a difficult childhood, marked by poverty and violence. He was often bullied at school and at home, and he turned to music as a way of escape.
At the age of 15, Barnes left school and moved to Australia with his family. He began playing in bands and eventually formed Cold Chisel in 1973. Cold Chisel quickly became one of the most popular bands in Australia, and they went on to release a string of hit albums and singles.
Barnes' autobiography is full of stories about his life on the road with Cold Chisel. He writes about the band's early struggles, their rise to fame, and their eventual breakup. He also writes about his personal life, including his marriage to Jane Mahoney and his battle with alcoholism.
Working Class Boy is a powerful and inspiring story about a man who overcame adversity to achieve his dreams. Barnes' writing is honest and raw, and he does not shy away from the difficult parts of his life. The book is a must-read for fans of Cold Chisel and for anyone who is interested in the story of a true working-class hero.
Barnes will be touring Australia in support of Working Class Boy in October and November 2023. Details of the tour can be found on his website.
